The Fine Tuning Argument & The Multiverse

During my testimony, I mentioned that even before I became a Christian, I had a hard time believing in evolution.  As I was being taught evolution in school, we were also taught about how complicated cells were, all the data encoded in to DNA, etc…  I couldn’t imagine any way all that complexity ever came from nothing, so I believed there was a designer.  I just made up a designer (little G god) who was happy with me and the way I lived.

One of the arguments from science for the existence of God is how finely tuned the universe is to support life.  This is what is referred to as a Teleological Argument.  A Teleological Argument is an argument for the existence of God from complex functionality in the natural world which looks designed (because it is!).  As Christians, we shouldn’t be surprised to find examples like this because the Bible says…

Psa 19:1
The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.

They don’t just show His handywork, they reveal it so plainly that it leaves people without an excuse when they don’t believe in God!

Rom 1:18-20
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed [it] unto them.
20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, [even] his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse

Check out this brief video about the fine tuning of the universe.  Pay attention to how crazy the odds are that these universal constants are tuned precisely to permit life.  These odds can’t really be called odds, it’s really an impossibility that they occurred by chance!

What does all this have to do with the multiverse (mentioned in the post title)?  Watch the video and find out!  Hint… Impossible odds + not wanting to be held accountable to God = ridiculous theories (that aren’t even scientific because they can’t be confirmed through experimentation or observation).
